VRML is proud to collaborate with ESL Gaming & Oculus once again in order to produce this mind-blowing tournament with the intention of selecting 4 teams that will compete for the following prize pool on stage at the Oculus Connect 5 on September 26-27th !

1st place : $25,000

The winning team will also get MagTubes from ProTubeVR and VR Cover accessories!

August 5th
  1. The season ends.
  2. Globochem, winners of the last ESL invitational, automatically qualifies to OC5.
  3. Rank #2 and #3 in the worldwide standings receive byes in the Finals B and A respectively.
  4. Rank #4 to #7 in the worldwide standings are invited to compete in an ESL & Oculus Invitational in Leicester, UK on September 1st and 2nd!
  5. Rank #8 to #13 will participate in the Round-robin group stage.
  6. Rank #14 or below will participate in the Open Qualifiers (aka the Wildcard Tournaments).
August 6th
  1. Oculus Rifts are sent to the Leicester invitational participants.
August 10th
  1. Last day to register in the Open Qualifiers.
August 11th and 12th
  1. The Open Qualifiers. These tournaments follow a Swiss-system Tournament model.
  2. Only teams ranked #14 or below in the worldwide standings are elligible to participate.
  3. 1 team from each Open Qualifier will be seeded into 1 round-robin group based on its worldwide standings.
August 18th and 19th
  1. The 8 teams round-robin group stage.
  2. Rank #8 to #13 and the 2 winners of the Open Qualifiers will compete in a 2 groups (A and B) round-robin seeded using the worldwide standings.
  3. The top 2 teams from each group will qualify to the Semifinals.
August 24th
  1. The Semifinals A
  2. The group A #1 team will fight the group B #2 team coming out of the round-robin in a best-of-three match.
  3. The winner of this match will take on the team which had a bye and which was ranked #3 in the worldwide standings.
  4. The winner of this match will qualify to OC5!
August 26th
  1. The Semifinals B
  2. The group B #1 team will fight the group A #2 team coming out of the round-robin in a best-of-three match.
  3. The winner of this match will take on the team which had a bye and which was ranked #2 in the worldwide standings.
  4. The winner of this match will qualify to OC5!
September 1st and 2nd
  1. ESL & Oculus Leicester Invitational
  2. Rank #4 to #7 from worldwide standings will compete in a double-elimination bracket.
  3. The winner of this competition will qualify to OC5!
September 26th and 27th
  1. The Oculus Connect 5 competition. 4 teams.
Format Details
Stage 1 - Open Qualifiers - August 11th & 12th - 16:00 UTC
All teams registered in the Open Qualifiers will play at least 5 matches against other teams in their corresponding group. The Open Qualifiers follow the standards of a Swiss-system tournament. The first set of matches will be determined randomly and partially seeded by standings. Each match will consist of 1 map as detailed below. Whichever team finished higher in the season standings will start home - for all matches.
All teams will be ranked by number of wins (& ties) then by Buchholz then by +/- points then by points total. If a tie happens, the teams will play a single-elimination map. The best team will be granted a spot for Stage 2.

Stage 2 - Round-robin Group Stage - August 18th & 19th
8 teams (Rank #8 to #13 from the Worldwide Season Standings and 2 coming from the Open Qualifiers) will be split in 2 groups. Each team will play the other 3 teams in the respective group in a Round-robin format. Each match will consist of 2 maps. Whichever team finished higher in the season standings will start home and reversed for the second map. For each bracket, each team will ban one map. The home team will ban a map first.
All teams will be ranked by number of map-wins then by +/- points then by total points. The top 2 teams from each group will be granted a spot for Stage 3.

The first match will see GROUP A #1 square off against GROUP B #2 in a regular league style - 'Best of 3' format. The winner of this match will move on to challenge the team which had a bye and which was ranked #3 in the worldwide standings. This final will be played in a 'Best of 5' format.
